Chitrakoot: People created ruckus alleging death in police custody
The furore over the suspicious death of a youth in Uttar Pradesh’s Chitrakoot shows no signs of abating. Anshu Kumar, a youth living in Aryanagar of the district, was detained by the police on Sunday, but his body was found on the railway track. The family alleges that the youth died in police custody and was subjected to third degree torture. While the police say that Anshu was released after interrogation. The police tried to declare his death as an accident. A lot of anger is being seen in the family regarding this incident. People blocked the road on Monday.
When politics started heating up over this incident, DM and SP also reached the spot. After this, four policemen including the Kotwal have been suspended. According to the police, a Muharram procession was taking place in Manikpur town on Sunday evening. Meanwhile, the police got information that a young man named Anshu Arch was committing rape while half naked under the influence of alcohol. On receiving this information, the police reached the spot and took him into custody and brought him to the police station. It is alleged that Anshu fled from the police station after some time. This incident has also been recorded in the CCTV cameras installed in the police station.
The body was found near Panhai railway station
After some time, the police received information that a young man had died after being hit by a train outside the Pandhai railway station. After receiving this information, the police reached the spot and posted its photo on social media to identify the dead body. When the family members came to know about this, they reached the spot, identified the body and started raising ruckus accusing the police of custodial torture and murder. Enraged people blocked the road and sat down. Seeing the situation going out of control, the police forces of four police stations were called to the spot.
DM SP also reached the spot
Meanwhile, Bajrang Dal members who reached the spot tried to give a communal color to the incident. On receiving the news, DM Shivsharanappa and SP Arun Kumar Singh reached the spot and suspended the four policemen including Kotwal Vinod Kumar Shukla with immediate effect and ordered a case against them under relevant sections. After this the atmosphere calmed down a bit. According to the police, the driver of the train has given a report at the station. It is said that the youth came running on the railway track. Even after sounding the horn, he did not move from the track and was hit by the train.
This was the reason for the suspension
According to police officials, the incident of arresting the youth has not been registered in the GD. Even after the incident of escape from custody, neither the higher authorities nor the youth’s family were informed about the matter. This shows the negligence of the police personnel. In view of this negligence, four policemen including the Kotwal have been suspended. According to Chitrakoot SP Arun Kumar Singh, the matter is being impartially investigated and further action will be taken based on whatever facts come out.
This is the case
According to police, Anshu was collecting money from truck drivers near a dhaba on Sunday. After this he also assaulted some hawkers and shopkeepers at the railway station. Then he started creating ruckus in Moharram processions as well. Based on the instructions of the people who participated in the procession, the police caught him and brought him to the police station. However, the police initially claimed that Anshu had escaped from custody. Later, the police gave a statement that he was released from the police station after questioning. While the family members say that there was a phone conversation with the police about Anshu late at night. It was said at the time that he would be released by morning, but before morning his body was found on the railway tracks.
Politics also started
SP district president Shivshankar Yadav, former MLA Veer Singh Patel, etc. reached the protest site as soon as they got the information about the incident. During this time Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad workers also arrived. People from Hindu organizations were also demanding action against those involved in the Muharram procession, while SP leaders were demanding an inquiry into the matter by a retired judge. There was a heated argument between the two parties on this issue. Seeing the politics heating up, SDM Pankaj Verma and Additional SP Chakrapani Tripathi persuaded both parties and removed them from there.
