Questions raised on Amroha police encounter

Questions are being raised on the police encounter in Amroha district of Uttar Pradesh. In fact, during the trial of the case, the police encountered three accused, the court gave a major verdict using five words like strange, surprising, unnatural, suspicious and unbelievable. The court has acquitted two of the three arrested accused.

On July 16, 2024, Hasanpur Kotwali Police of Amroha produced three accused in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate of Amroha as accused in the encounter. The police requested the court to grant 14-day remand of the three arrested accused. As soon as the court read the case diary filed by the police, Hasanpur Kotwali police was put in the circle of questions. The court said that during the encounter, a pistol and an empty cartridge were recovered from the bullet fired from the accused Manoj and he was shot in one of his legs. The police involved in the encounter were not injured.

The court questioned whether the police had fired a 9mm bullet in the encounter, even an empty shell was not found. The court asked how this could happen? Keeping this in mind only, the court rejected the remand under Section 109 N-N-S imposed on the three accused caught in the encounter by the police. The court acquitted Anil and Rohit while granting police remand of accused Manoj Saini under the Arms Act.

Both the accused, who were acquitted by the court, also narrated the incident to the police. Rohit, who was acquitted by the court, said that the police picked him up from his house while he was sleeping at night. When the family protested, the police misbehaved with the family. After this he was taken to the police station. Rohit further said that a video was made of him being taken to a mango orchard early in the morning and giving the appearance of an encounter. He relented as the police continued to talk because of his fear of the police.
