Bad condition due to floods in Barabanki

Due to incessant rain in the hills, almost all the rivers in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Bihar have overflowed. In Uttar Pradesh, Saryu river in particular has wreaked havoc from Barabanki to Ballia. Many villages in Barabanki district have been engulfed in floods. This situation has arisen due to the water released from many barrages in Nepal. Recently, Nepal opened a barrage and released 8 lakh cusecs of water in Saryu river. As the river Ganges is already flowing in Ballia, the water cannot flow further. Due to which the water level of Sarayu river is continuously increasing.

The situation is such that the Sarayu river has assumed a monstrous form with this water. The situation in the coastal areas of this river has become critical. At present the water level of the river is about 70 cm above the danger mark. The situation has reached such a stage that hundreds of villages along the river have been submerged. Not only have the fields been flooded, now this water has also started entering the population. In many places, the houses built in the river bed have been cut into the river bed and submerged in the water. Meanwhile, news of another release of millions of cusecs of water by Nepal has created an atmosphere of fear. There are fears that the situation will worsen with the arrival of this water.

Alleged non-availability of administrative assistance

According to the report of district administration, around 15 villages of Sirauli Gauspur tehsil area are surrounded by flood water. Water has also entered people’s houses in Telwari and Gobarha villages. A large number of people have also migrated under such circumstances. Hundreds of acres of agricultural land have been submerged in the river. Also Telwari Primary School and Gobarha Primary Health Center have been submerged in flood waters. Even in such circumstances, local people have alleged that no help has been received from the government and administration. On the other hand, the district administration claims that efforts are being made to provide help to all the flood victims.

Similar is the situation in Ramnagar taluka area. Here too, due to rising water level of Sarayu river and rapid erosion, about a dozen houses have been submerged in the river. Considering the situation, many families have been shifted from here to a safer place. As many as eight houses in Belhari and two houses in Kedaripur village have been submerged in the river due to erosion in the river. Seeing the situation, the people of these two villages are demolishing their houses themselves and taking the bricks to a safe place to save them. The administration has also deployed SDRF teams for rescue and relief work in the flood-affected areas. These teams are constantly patrolling the area.
