Ilam’s school is running in the district jail

Education can be acquired at any age and anywhere, there is no compulsion for it. Something similar is being seen in the district jail of Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh, where about 250 inmates are receiving education every day. Not only this, two teachers have been appointed by the jail administration to educate the inmates, while many inmates are fully cooperating in educating their fellow inmates. Due to which, these days, Elam’s school is being run in three shifts in the district jail of Gazipur.

These days, as many as eight inmates lodged in Gazipur’s district jail for murder and other cases are working to improve the future of their peers through their education. These people are teaching their colleagues Hindi, English and other subjects so that they can help these inmates.

Currently there are 702 inmates in the jail.

At present, there are a total of 702 prisoners in this jail in Ghazipur, many of whom are locked up in dangerous criminal cases. Similarly, to change the hearts of the inmates, work is being done by the prison administration and teachers to connect them with education because when these inmates came to the jail there were many educated people and there are many illiterate people who are now in jail. In this prison, if they get education from school and go back to society, they will not have to suffer the sting of neglect, rather these people will be able to join the mainstream of society because of their education.

Prisoners are counseled every month

Dharmendra Srivastava was appointed as a teacher under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan to educate these inmates in the jail. He said that for the past several years there has been a knowledge school in the jail, where the inmates are counseled every month and try to find out whether they are educated or illiterate. In such a situation, a class is created in which a separate category of educated people is created and a separate category of illiterate people is created. After this he himself and his companion Abhay Kumar teach these inmates, along with other educated inmates also teach their companions.

One literate prisoner in 10 to 15 prisoners

He said that along with imparting education to these inmates, about eight inmates are also educating their peers, with around 250 inmates studying in their school in the month of August, who were sent to the school in total. The study is conducted in three shifts. Each shift has around 80 to 90 inmates and among literate inmates 10 to 15 inmates are also assigned to a literate inmate so that they can give special attention to their studies. Jail Superintendent Arun Pratap Singh said that various competitions are organized every month among these inmates who are receiving education, including drawing competition, essay competition, general knowledge competition, indoor games, outdoor games and cricket matches as well. is in which the inmates participate enthusiastically and the inmates who come first, second and third in the competition are also honored with certificates by the jail administration.
