UP: Paper leak scam, 80 WhatsApp-Telegram groups, ‘50% discount’ for women; How were 35,000 people cheated?

The UP STF has arrested a fraudster who claimed to have leaked police recruitment exam papers in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi. The fraudster created a WhatsApp group in the name of ‘Inspector Hansraj’ and charged male students Rs 1000 and female students Rs 500 to join the group. The accused was claiming that the paper would be made available to this group 24 hours before the police recruitment exam. Similarly, the accused also cheated people by creating groups on Telegram app.

According to the UP STF, the arrested accused has been identified as Hans Ranjan Kumar, a resident of Khagaria, Bihar. The accused used to live in Varanasi Cantt and was doing this kind of fraud. According to STF officials, the police are sensitizing the students to conduct the police recruitment exam safely. In the same sequence, the STF received information that there was a WhatsApp group in the name of Inspector Hansraj, claiming that the exam papers had been leaked.

35000 people cheated

Based on this information STF laid a trap and arrested the accused while tracing the location of the WhatsApp number. During police interrogation, the accused said that so far he has added 35000 people to the group. He said that so far he has cheated thousands of people by creating more than 80 WhatsApp and Telegram groups for various exams. For this, the accused knew in advance which examination was to be taken and where the center was to be taken.

After preparing his details, the accused used to circulate them among competitive students and then extort Rs. 1000 and Rs. 500 was charged. The accused used to claim that people belonging to his group or channel would get the question paper 24 hours before the exam. After the exam, the accused used to delete that group or channel. The accused during the police interrogation said that so far he has collected more than twenty lakh rupees in the police recruitment exam itself.
