More than 4 thousand women are becoming widows in Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh for the last 3 years. She used to draw both ration and pension in her husband’s name. An investigation revealed a complete fraud. In fact, 4487 women of the district get married every month while taking ration and these same women get pension as widows by pretending their husbands are dead. Everyone was shocked when this came out.

As soon as this shocking case came to light, the district administration started an investigation. The surprising thing is that this mess was going on for the last three years. This revelation came when ration cards were linked to Aadhaar. 4487 women are found to be taking ration from food logistics department in the name of their husbands and same women are availing widow pension from women welfare department.

On the other hand, pension was being taken by showing only one husband as deceased. How these women are taking advantage of government schemes by taking advantage of dual identity. Now the investigation is going on in this matter. This matter came to light when Aadhaar card was linked with ration card. The Food Logistics Department had called for a list from the Women Welfare Department for investigation. When the two lists were compared, 4487 women in the district were found to be involved in malpractice.

Pension of more than 16 crores lost

These women are also drawing pension from the Women Welfare Department and being married are also drawing the ration of their husband’s share registered in the ration card. According to sources, these women were availing the benefits of these schemes for the last three years. He was getting a pension of Rs 1000 per month. If three years pension of 4487 women is added, they were given more than 16 crore 15 lakh rupees. Not only this, these women also got five kilos of ration per unit on their ration card.
