Why did SP field Akhilesh Yadav in only 6 out of 10 seats?
The Samajwadi Party is also gearing up to win the by-election battle for 10 seats in Uttar Pradesh. On Monday, the SP declared in charge of 6 seats. This in-charge will look after election strategy and booth management. Among the seats where SP incharges are being talked about the most are Milkipur seat in Ayodhya, Katehri seat in Ambedkar Nagar and Phulpur seat in Prayagraj.
However, the discussion is also going on about those 4 seats for which the Samajwadi Party has not declared the in-charge. It is being said that when the ruling party has announced in-charges in all 10 seats, then why SP appointed in-charges in only 6 seats?
In charge declared on these 6 seats
By-elections are to be held on 10 seats in UP. Akhilesh Yadav has declared in charge of 6 seats. The seats that have been declared in charge include Katehari in Ambedkar Nagar, Milkipur in Faizabad, Phulpur in Prayagraj, Mazwan in Mirzapur, Seesamau in Kanpur and Karhal in Mainpuri.
Akhilesh has made uncle Shivpal Yadav in charge of Katehri, Awadhesh Prasad and Lal Bahadur Yadav in charge of Milkipur, Virendra Singh of Mazwan, Chandradev Yadav of Karahal, Indrajit Saroj of Phulpur and Rajendra Kumar of Sismai.
In 2022, the Samajwadi Party won in Katehari, Karhal, Milkipur and Sismau. Nishad Party won in Mazwan and BJP won in Phulpur.
Incumbents have not been declared on these 4 seats
The four seats Akhilesh Yadav has not declared in-charge are Kundarki in Sambhal, Mirapur in Bijnor, Kher in Aligarh and Sadar seat in Ghaziabad. Barring Kundarki, only NDA parties won remaining 3 seats in 2022.
SP’s non-declaration of in-charge on these seats is a matter of debate. In such a situation, let us know why Akhilesh has not declared himself in charge here with 6 seats?
1. The picture on alliance with Congress is not clear
Akhilesh Yadav’s party has contested the Lok Sabha elections in alliance with the Congress. There is talk of fighting with both the parties in the by-elections as well. However, the picture regarding the alliance is not clear. Congress was demanding Ghaziabad and Phulpur seats, but Akhilesh has put his strongman Indrajit Saroj in charge of Phulpur. In such a situation now it is certain that only SP will contest from Phulpur seat.
Akhilesh has not appointed an in-charge for the Ghaziabad Sadar seat. It is being said that this seat may be given to the Congress if talks are held. In 2024, the Ghaziabad seat went to the Congress.
2. Not good result on these seats in Lok Sabha
In the Lok Sabha elections, the SP registered a big victory in Uttar Pradesh, but the SP did not perform well in Ghaziabad and Bijnor. SP candidate in Bijnor and Congress candidate in Ghaziabad have lost. The Indian alliance has lagged behind in the seats where assembly elections are scheduled under these two Lok Sabha constituencies.
RLD is leading in Bijnor’s Mirapur and BJP is leading in Ghaziabad’s Sadar seat. In such a scenario, it is being said that a new equation will now be needed to win both these seats, which is delaying the announcement of the in-charge here.
3. Claims are also a major reason for not declaring in-charge
SP won Kundarki seat in 2022. This seat is considered to be the stronghold of the Burke family. The list of contenders here has grown long after the senior Burke’s demise and the election of his grandson Ziaur Rahman Burke as MP.
Akhilesh couldn’t decide here who to give the ticket to. Former Moradabad MP ST Hasan has also claimed from this seat. Recently, Haasan had said that he would contest elections if Akhilesh ordered.
Well, the situation is the same with the seat. Although SP’s Bijendra Singh lost from Aligarh in the Lok Sabha elections, the party got a big lead in Kher. Now there is a long list of contenders for this seat. Declaring the in-charge here without sorting out the claimants may increase tension for the SP.
Who is in charge of the ruling BJP?
10 seats have been divided among 5 big BJP leaders. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is responsible for Katehari and Milkipur. Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya has been given charge of Phulpur and Manjwani, Second Deputy CM Brijesh Pathak has been given charge of Sisamau and Karhal seats.
The party has given responsibility for Kundarki and Mirapur to state president Bhupendra Chaudhary and organization general secretary Dharampal Singh has been given responsibility for Ghaziabad and Kher seats. Ministers have also been put on duty to support these 5 leaders.
