After the heavy defeat in UP in the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP has suffered a major setback in Ambedkar Nagar district of the state. A BJP leader’s wife had to settle for third position in a by-election held for a district panchayat seat of Katehari Assembly. In this by-election, BSP-backed candidate Deepalta Gautam has won massively. However, BJP district media in-charge Valmiki Upadhyaya says that BJP has not fielded its candidate.
BSP-backed candidate Deepalta alias Dimple Gautam Kathari has won the election for the first district panchayat member. SP-backed candidate Kranti Devi is second. Even BJP leader Satish’s wife Savitri Devi could not get bail.
Elections were held on August 6 after the death of Shyam Kali.
After the death of Shyam Kathi, the first member of Kathari District Panchayat, the election was held on August 6 on this seat. SP and BSP fielded their candidates on this. BJP did not field its official candidate in this election which was held after the Lok Sabha elections.
BJP leader Satish’s wife Savitri Devi got 241 votes.
BSP-backed candidate Deepalta was leading from the beginning in the counting of votes which started on Thursday morning. He got victory. He has defeated the nearest SP backed candidate Kanti Devi by 2 thousand 639 votes. BJP leader’s wife could not save bail either. Deepalta got 5 thousand 599 votes. Kanti Devi got 2 thousand 960 votes while Savitri Devi got 241 votes.
