Whenever the police raided here, the accused used to escape through this tunnel. According to the South 24 Parganas Police, a complaint was recently received regarding the sale of fake idols. During the investigation of the case, when the police reached the house of the accused Saddam living in Sonarpur village, the accused opened fire on the police. The accused disappeared from inside the house when the police strengthened the cordon to defend themselves.

A tunnel was found under the bed in the room

In such a situation, the police entered the house of the accused and investigated. Meanwhile, a tunnel was found under the bed in one of the rooms. When the police went inside, they found that the tunnel started from the house of the accused and ended in a canal passing nearby. According to the police, the accused Saddam, finding himself surrounded by the police, escaped through the tunnel along with his accomplices. Now the police have arrested two women from the house of the accused. It is alleged that these women kept the police trapped until the accused escaped.

The business of fake idols has spread to Dhaka

The police are interrogating these women. It was revealed that fake antique idols are manufactured in Dhaka, Bangladesh. From there, these idols are transported across the border through the river and then brought here to Sonarpur and sold. During police interrogation, these women said that the accused Saddam used to sell these idols both online and offline. For this he also gave formal advertisements in newspapers and social media.

The smuggler Saddam fled towards the Matla River

In which he claimed to sell ancient and Ashtadhatu idols, he used to charge huge sums of money from customers and send them fake idols similar to the ancient ones. According to the South 24 Parganas Police, starting from the house of the accused, where the tunnel ends in the canal, one can go through the canal towards Jai Nagar and on the other side reach the Matla river and escape by canoe. can happen It is suspected that the accused has escaped through Matla river. In such a situation, all coastal police stations have also been alerted.
