Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Ma has expressed grief over the drowning of 11 people due to heavy rains in Hoshiarpur on Sunday. The Chief Minister said that it was very unfortunate that 11 members of a family from Himachal Pradesh, who were traveling in an Innova car, got trapped in the rising water in the canal due to heavy rains.
He said that 9 members of the family have died, while the search is on for the remaining two. Condoling the demise of the 9 persons, CM Bhagwant Maan said that he prayed to God to rest the departed souls at his feet. The Chief Minister also announced financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh to the heirs of the victim’s family. Bhagwant Ma said that he has instructed the administration to speed up relief operations to find the missing people.
In fact, nine people, including eight members of a family, were killed while two others went missing when a vehicle washed away in a water-logged small rain-fed river in Jaijon, about 34 km from Punjab’s Hoshiarpur, on Sunday. Expressing grief over this tragic incident, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Man has announced financial assistance of 4 lakh rupees to the family.
