Engineer Rashid
Awami Ittehad Party president and Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid has completely rejected the allegations leveled against him and said that he is working behind the scenes as an ally of the BJP. During an interview, he said that people who are calling him a BJP ally should be ashamed.
The MP says he considers himself the only mainstream leader who has faced harassment from the ruling party. He said that he is the only person who has been harassed by the BJP. Rasheed said that National Conference Vice President and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti was kept in SKICC for several months, but he was kept in Tihar Jail, he was the only MLA in the jail.
‘Mehbooba and Omar are puppets’
Engineer Rashid also targeted former chief ministers of the state, Omar Abdullah of the National Conference (NC) and Mehbooba Mufti of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He said that neither Umar Mahatma could become Gadi, nor Subhash Chandra. Similarly, Mehbooba could neither become Razia Sultan of Myanmar nor Aung San Suu Kyi. Rashid said that these are both puppets and rubber stamps.

He also attacked the central government. MP Rashid criticized the abrogation of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir in 2019. He claimed that this was a vote against the atrocities committed on him and every Kashmiri by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Rashid said that his electoral success in the general elections was a reflection of public sentiment against the Modi government’s new Kashmir initiative.
‘BJP has let people down’
Engineer Rashid said that people’s commitment to their rights and identity in the state is strong, which makes it clear that PM Modi’s vision of a new Kashmir is not acceptable to the people here. He said that the government has disappointed the people of Jammu and Kashmir by removing Article 370.
Engineer Rashid is MP from Baramulla
Engineer Rashid was arrested by the NIA in 2019 on charges of terror financing. He was lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail. On 10 September, he was granted interim bail till 2 October to campaign for his Awami Ittehad Party candidates. In the Lok Sabha elections, he defeated the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir from the Baramulla Lok Sabha seat by more than 2 lakh votes.
