However, many other actresses associated with this film also wanted to play the role of Aishwarya, one of whom was the big actress from South Trisha. She played the role of ‘Kundvai’ in ‘Ponniyan Selvan’, for which she also received a lot of appreciation. In an interview some time ago, Trisha said that she had spoken to the director of the film for this role, but he turned Trisha down.
‘Ponniyan Selvan’ is a 2022 Tamil language epic action drama. Along with Aishwarya, many other great actresses like Trisha, Shobhita Dhulipala, Aishwarya Lakshmi are involved in this film. The character of Nandini, played by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, has been made the most powerful in the film. But Trisha also wanted to do this role. While revealing this, she said that she had asked the film’s director, Mani Ratnam, if she could play the role of ‘Nandini’ instead of ‘Kudnavai’. But the director did not think about this.

In an interview to News18, Trisha said that she went to Mani Ratnam’s office to meet him, where he inquired about her role. Answering his question, the director refused him. Mani Ratnam told Trisha that he had first cast for the role of ‘Nandini’ and felt that no one could play the role better than Aishwarya. Trisha was overjoyed when she learned that Aishwarya Rai was cast for the role.

The first part of ‘Ponniyan Selvan’ was released in the year 2022, that year the film earned Rs 450-500 crores. ‘Ponnian Selvan’ became the third highest grossing Indian film of 2022 and the fourth highest grossing Tamil film.
The film won 4 National Awards at the 70th National Awards. The film was supposed to be a one-part film, but due to the length of the story, it was made into two parts. Its story is based on the 1955 novel Ponnyan Selvan by Kalki Krishnamurthy. The film received six nominations including Best Film at the 16th Asian Film Awards. ‘Ponnian Selvan’ won the Best Tamil Film award at the 68th Filmfare Awards.
