The warm-up matches for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 are over. The Indian team won both their practice matches. Team India first beat West Indies by 20 runs, then beat South Africa by 28 runs. Now it is the turn of the group stage matches of the tournament. Although the tournament will start from October 3rd, India’s tour is scheduled to begin on October 4 against New Zealand. This time the tournament is special in many ways, as many things are going to happen for the first time in the Women’s T20 World Cup.

Team India in Sharjah for 25 years

10 teams are participating in the T20 World Cup 2024, divided into two groups of 5 each. First let’s talk about Team India. In the group stage, the Indian team has to play 4 matches, in which they have to face New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Australia. India will play their last group stage match against Australia in Sharjah. This will be the first time in the last 25 years that the Indian men’s or women’s team will play a match at this ground.

Many matches of the T20 World Cup will be held in Dubai. All 10 teams participating in the tournament have never played a T20 International match in Dubai before. That means Dubai will host these teams for the first time. Also, this is the first time that the Women’s T20 World Cup is going to be held at a neutral venue. Earlier, these tournaments were hosted by one or the other team participating in the tournament. This time it was hosted by Bangladesh but due to political upheaval the tournament had to be shifted to the UAE, making the venue neutral for all teams.

These things will also happen for the first time

The ICC recently took a big step to promote parity and made the prize money of the Women’s T20 World Cup at par with the Men’s T20 World Cup. In the last edition, the prize money was $1 million, which has increased by 134 percent to $2.34 million. It remains to be seen whether defending champions Australia are able to capture this increased prize money, meaning a new champion emerges in the tournament.
