The Indira Gandhi International Airport, which came into operation in the 1930s, is back in the headlines today. The reason it appeared in the news is that a large part of the roof of Terminal 1 fell on vehicles and people. So far, 1 person has died and 6 have been injured as a result of this incident. This airport is among the busiest in the country, from where hundreds of flights take off in a day.

Due to this, now the airport management has taken a big decision and has cancelled all flights from Terminal-1 and has also closed the check-in counters. Now the most important question that arises here is whether the passengers whose flight has been cancelled will receive a refund or the airline will offer them another flight.

What does the norm say?

As per the rules, in case of cancellation or cancellation of a flight, the airlines will provide an alternative flight to the customer or will also give compensation in addition to the full refund of the flight ticket. In addition to this, the airline will also provide food to those passengers who were present at the airport while waiting for another alternative flight. According to the rules of the General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGAC), in case of a flight delay, the airline must give away miles and refreshments to its customers. Apart from this, the passenger must refund the full amount of the alternative flight/ticket or hotel.

You get this refund

In case of overbooking of seats, the airline will first have to ask volunteers to give up their seats. If a passenger refuses to board a flight, the airline must provide a replacement flight within one hour. If this is not possible, then the airline has to pay 200% of the airfare, i.e. approximately 2 times plus the airline’s fuel surcharge, which is capped at Rs 10,000.

If the second flight is after 24 hours, the airline must pay up to 400% of the fare. According to the DGCA, if you have paid in cash, the airline must refund you immediately. Apart from this, if payment is made by credit card, the money must be returned within 7 days.

complain like that

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has also enabled the facility to file complaints against airlines. This complaint should be filed when you are being harassed by airlines regarding ticket refund, then you can directly go to the DGCA site and complain.
