Fought for shoes for 11 years

It is said that when it comes to self-respect, neither the amount of money nor anything else matters, only the battle for one’s survival is fought. A case of the fight to save this self-respect has emerged from Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh. Shivraj Singh Thakur, who lived here, fought a long legal battle to protect his self-respect and won this battle too.

He has been waiting for this win for 11 years. He has now breathed a sigh of relief after this win after a long wait and patience. Shivraj’s fight started over shoes. The shoe was bad and the shopkeeper said something to Shivraj, to get rid of the pain, Shivraj went to the consumer forum and fought for years and waited for a decision.

The battle of Rs 600 shoes started in 2013.

In fact, the case started in 2013 when Shivraj Thakur bought shoes worth Rs 600 from Jyoti Foot Wear, located in Subhash Chowk, Balaghat. Two days after buying the shoes, the soles burst from the inside. When Shivraj went to the shopkeeper to change his shoes, the shopkeeper not only ignored his complaint but also insulted him and questioned his status.

Shoes will not be replaced

The shopkeeper said that these shoes can no longer be replaced as the shoes have no guarantee and warranty. Then Shivraj said that you talked big while buying. The shopkeeper was angry about this. Customer Shivraj said that he will go to the customer forum and complain about this whole matter. To this the shopkeeper said that he has seen many customers like you. What will you do there? Its price is also 2000 rupees. Now what is your status? Aggrieved by this humiliating behavior, Shivraj approached the consumer forum to save his self-respect. In 2013, he filed a case in Balaghat’s consumer forum. However, after the case dragged on for 2 months, he was not satisfied with the decision of Consumer Forum Balaghat and appealed to the State Consumer Forum, Bhopal.

How much was fined?

It took 11 years to reach a decision in this case. Finally, the Madhya Pradesh State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Bhopal awarded the shopkeeper Rs. 3,400 fined. It has 6% annual interest of Rs. 600 in principal amount, for physical and mental pain Rs. 1000 and towards appeal costs Rs. 1000 included. This judgment makes it clear that no matter how long it takes to get justice, one can protect his self-respect if the will is strong. This fight of Shivraj Thakur not only got him justice but also showed that even a common citizen can stand up for his rights.
