Congress leader Rahul Gandhi
In his address in Sangli, Maharashtra, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi hit out at the Narendra Modi government at the Center and said that only those who make mistakes should apologise. If he has to apologise, he should apologize to Shivaji Maharaj as well as to the people of the state. In the matter of breaking Shivaji’s statue, he said that the PM should tell on which issue he has apologised.
Addressing a public meeting in Sangli, Rahul Gandhi said, “…our ideology is in your DNA and the struggle you are witnessing in India is not just politics. Politics comes first, India today has a war of ideologies going on. There is Congress on one side and BJP on the other. We want social development, we want to unite all and they want only a select few to benefit… This is a fight between us and you will see it all over the country.”
Targeting the fall of Shivaji’s statue and PM Modi’s apology recently, Rahul Gandhi said that those who make mistakes seek forgiveness. When PM Modi apologized for the fall of Shivaji’s statue, he should say who he apologized to. They should clarify whether the contract for making the statue is sought to be awarded to RSS people instead of merit or for corruption.
Re-promising to conduct a caste census, Rahul Gandhi said, “I said in the Lok Sabha that whatever happens, we will conduct a caste census. Congress party and our alliance will conduct a census because we want to understand the truth of the country that which class is benefiting from the wealth of this country?
Earlier, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said that we have come here in memory of Dr. Patangrao Kadam. He dedicated his entire life in the service of Congress, Maharashtra and the country. Kadam worked on education and development and remained with the Congress throughout his life. Even when Indira Gandhi lost the election, Kadam stood by her.
The Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha further said that Maharashtra is a progressive state. Different people worked here and brought people together. All these showed the way to Maharashtra. Many people including Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Shahuji Maharaj, Phuleji gave way of life, progress and inspiration to Maharashtra and the entire country.
