Former Madhya Pradesh High Court judge Justice Rohit Arya has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) nearly three months after his retirement. Munwar Farooqui was accused of hurting religious sentiments during a New Year event in Indore. Later, the Supreme Court reversed the decision of the High Court and granted bail to Farooqui. Controversy arose over granting bail to the accused in the rape case

Justice Arya’s bail order made headlines in 2020. The decision was widely criticized and later overturned by the Supreme Court. Who is Retired Justice Rohit Arya?

Justice Arya was born in 1962 and enrolled as an advocate in 1984. He was appointed as a senior advocate in the Madhya Pradesh High Court in 2003. His main practice areas include civil law, commercial law, arbitration, administrative law, service law, labor law and tax law. He also represented organizations like Central Government, State Bank of India, Department of Telecommunication, BSNL, Employees State Insurance Corporation and Income Tax Department. He was elevated as a judge of the High Court in 2013 and was sworn in as a permanent judge in 2015. He retired on 27 April 2024.
