A board has been installed on the bridge over the river Ganges in Bijnor

A bridge over the river Ganga in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh has become a living example of the corruption of politicians and officials. This bridge and approach road was supposed to be built in the year 2011 at a cost of 16 crores, the work for this started in the year 2007 itself, but only the bridge was completed by the year 2020 due to great difficulty increasing the cost of the project by 5 times. Construction is done. Due to the lack of an approach road, the bridge is still marked with a danger sign and the road is closed. This bridge is built in Narnaur of Jalilpur block of Chandpur tehsil of Bijnour.

The demand to provide connectivity between Narnaur in Chandpur tehsil of Bijnour and Maqdoompur in Hastinapur block of Mwana tehsil in Meerut started since independence. For this, the local people took great pains. With great difficulty, the government approved the project and the construction of the bridge over the Ganga river could begin in 2007. In the DPR prepared at that time, the cost of this project was Rs. 16 crore was stated. It was claimed that the construction of the approach road along with this bridge would be completed by the year 2011. Even 15 percent of the work could not be completed by the end of this period.

100 crore rupees have been spent so far

After this, the deadline was fixed several times and the cost of the project was increased each time. Somehow the construction work of this bridge was completed by the year 2020 by spending 100 crores instead of 16 crores, but the construction of the approach road connecting this bridge to the main road is still incomplete. However, this bridge was opened for traffic only in the year 2020. Along with this it was recognized as a new state highway. Meanwhile, the temporary approach road constructed for this newly constructed bridge was cut twice on the Narnaur side due to the flow of Ganges water and the traffic stopped.

It was repaired the first time, but after four months the approach road was washed away. Considering the situation, PWD has closed the bridge by placing bamboos and pillars on this road. A board has also been installed here regarding this. In fact, now PWD has sent a revised estimate to the government to commission this bridge. This estimate is 250 crore rupees. According to Satendra Singh, Executive Engineer of PWD, the budget is awaited from the government.

The MLA has demanded an inquiry into the scam

As soon as the budget is received, the work of widening the approach road, guide dam and road will be completed and traffic will be started again. Chandpur MLA Swami Omvesh has raised the issue of negligence and corruption in the construction of this bridge and road several times. He has also raised this issue in the Assembly and has also demanded an inquiry from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Let us tell you that due to the closure of this bridge, the people of Rampur, Amroha, Sambhal, Moradabad, Chandpur and Dhanura have to travel a long distance of 50 to 60 kilometers to reach Meerut.
