This city of Israel has a deep connection with India.
The tension that the war between Israel and Hezbollah has generated across the world is more worrying for industrialist Gautam Adani because his Rs 10,000 crore is at stake due to the unrest in Israel. The Israeli city in which Gautam Adani’s group has made such a huge investment has a deep connection with Indian history. This city has connections with Indian cities like Jodhpur, Patiala and Hyderabad, while today a corner of the country’s capital, Delhi, is also known by the name of this city of Israel.
Last year the G20 summit was held in India. Then, as an alternative to trade through the Suez Canal, a new economic corridor, the ‘India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor’ (IMEC), was proposed. This corridor will start in Mumbai, India. You have to get to Europe through Haifa in Israel. Gautam Adani’s company ‘Adani Port and SEZ’ is working to develop Haifa port in this city of Israel and the independence of this city has a connection with India.

India liberated Haifa
Israel’s Haifa city is the third largest city there. It is a center of world trade because much of the trade between Europe and Asia is carried out through this port. When we turn the pages of history, we come to know that the work of liberating this city of Israel was done by the brave soldiers of India.
It is about the First World War. At that time India was part of the British Raj. At that time, India was ruled by the British along with local princely states. At that time a treaty existed between the local princely states and the British government. One provision of this treaty was that the British government could use a portion of the Indian rulers’ army in its wars.
A war was also fought for Haifa’s independence during World War I. On September 23, 1918, the Ottoman Empire ended over the city of Haifa and the British flag was raised there. Later, at the time of Indian independence in 1948, the British also abandoned this city. But the Indian soldiers made a great contribution to the liberation of this city.
Connection to Jodhpur, Hyderabad and Patiala
To liberate Haifa, a brigade of soldiers from the princely states of India was formed. One of these was the 15th Cavalry Brigade (Imperial Service), which at that time arrived in Egypt via the Suez Canal. There it became part of the army of the British Empire and this contingent fought in the “Battle of Haifa”. Soldiers from many princely states of India came to this brigade. In this, most of the soldiers were from Jodhpur, Hyderabad, Patiala and Mysore, while some soldiers were also from Kashmir and Kathiawar.

Around 84 soldiers of this brigade lost their lives in World War I, while more than 120 soldiers were injured. Even today, the Indian Army celebrates ‘Haifa Day’ in honor of these soldiers. Not only this, a ‘War Memorial’ has also been built for this brigade near Teen Murti Bhawan in Delhi. Due to this war memorial, it was named ‘Teen Murti’, whose name was changed to ‘Teen Murti Haifa Chowk’ in 2018. The statues of three soldiers installed in this war memorial are of soldiers from Jodhpur, Hyderabad and Mysore.
Adani’s Rs 10,000 crore at stake
Adani Group won the contract for the development of the Haifa port built in this city. For this, a joint company has been created. Adani Port has a 70 percent stake and Israel’s Gadd Port has a 30 percent stake. For this, the Adani Group has paid $1.2 billion (around Rs 10,000 crore). But because Israel is involved in the war, its development is not yet complete. It has been possible.
