The GST Council meeting will be held on June 22.

The GST Council meeting will be held under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on June 22. The 53rd meeting of the GST Council will be held on June 22, 2024 in New Delhi, the GST Council Secretariat said in a post on Twitter. The meeting agenda has not yet been distributed to council members. This will be the first meeting of the council after the Lok Sabha elections.

The election results were announced on June 4 and Sitharaman was sworn in as a cabinet minister of the new Modi government on June 9. The 52nd meeting of the GST Council was held on October 7, 2023. Finance ministers of all states and union territories participated in this meeting.

Government treasury is filling up with GST

Government revenue from GST is continuously increasing. Talking about the financial year 2024-25, there was a huge increase in GST collections in April and May. A record jump in GST collection was recorded in the first month of the financial year i.e. April and it crossed Rs 2 lakh crore for the first time. The GST Council meeting this time can also be important. Because this will be the first meeting of the GST Council after the formation of the government. The budget is also coming next month, so this GST Council meeting is considered important. There are some issues, including petrol and diesel, which have been raised several times in the GST Council meeting.

Will petrol and diesel be subject to GST?

Earlier, Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that this time the central government will try to bring goods like petrol, diesel and natural gas under the ambit of Goods and Services Tax (GST). This will provide great relief to the common people. In fact, efforts have been made for years to bring petrol and diesel under the ambit of GST. This issue was discussed in several meetings of the GST Council. But a consensus has not yet been reached between the State and the center in this regard.
