A youth brutally killed five members of his own family in a property dispute in Dehradun. Investigation of the case revealed that the killer stabbed the family 85 times to kill them. Police investigation revealed that the youth suspected that his father would not transfer the property in his name, so he killed his father along with other family members. The High Court has reserved its verdict in the murder case of five people.
The entire case of brutal murder of five family members is from the idyllic town of Dehradun. The incident took place on 23 October 2014 on the night of Diwali. Where a man named Harmeet brutally killed five people including his father Jai Singh, step mother Kulwant Kaur, pregnant sister Harjit Kaur, three year old niece. The police investigation revealed that the accused killed the family members by stabbing them a total of 85 times, a medical report confirmed this.
The accused was troubled by his father’s second marriage.
The police investigation also revealed that the accused Harmeet was upset with his father Jai Singh’s second marriage and suspected that the father could transfer all the property to his step daughter. Hence he brutally killed the family members. Harmeet’s pregnant sister Harjit Kaur came to her parents’ house for delivery. The killer tried to make the whole incident a robbery, for which he even cut his hand with a knife.

The High Court reserved the decision
He registered a case on 24 October 2014 as soon as the police got information about the incident. On October 5, 2021, Dehradun District and Sessions Court Judge Ashutosh Mishra sentenced accused Harmit to death and fined Rs 1 lakh. The District and Sessions Court sent a reference to the High Court to confirm the death sentence. The High Court has reserved its decision on the death penalty. The High Court has concluded the hearing of the case in the bench of Chief Justice Ritu Bahari and Justice Alok Kumar.
