Metro is the most popular mode of transport in the city. Many changes are happening in the metro now. The biggest change has happened in the Delhi Metro. The driver cabin has started being removed from this metro. So where will the driver sit and drive the metro? You must be thinking… but the metro is now going to run without a driver. The metro will run completely automatically. This automatic metro will run till the end of June. Currently, there will be an attendant in the driverless metro trains. But with time, the attendant will also be present there.

What is the benefit of not having a driver cabin?

After the removal of the driver cabin in the metro, the train is going to be completely automatic. This will provide more seats to the passengers in the metro trains. The metro has a driver cabin at both the rear and front. The metro running on the existing line and the metro running on the Pink Line will also be driverless. Human errors are avoided due to the lack of human intervention. It is easy to drive the train. After the Delhi Metro, this option will come in the Mumbai and Pune Metro.

Presently it is 97 km long

The fully automated network of Delhi Metro is currently 97 km long. Now by the end of this month, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has informed that Delhi Metro will be fully automated. Driver’s cabin will be removed from 16 metros. This will provide more space to the passengers. Also, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation train attendants will be removed in a phased manner. One attendant will be kept with three or four trains.

Driverless operations from 2020

Driverless metro on the Magenta Line (Janakpuri West to Botanical Garden) was launched in December 2020. Driverless metro was introduced on the Pink Line in November 2021. When driverless operations began, metro trains had an attendant. This appointment was made to handle emergency metro trains.
