Delhi is in trouble due to rain
The people of Delhi eagerly awaited the rains to get relief from the heat wave, fire raining from the sky and polluted air. The arrival date of monsoon was 29th June but monsoon knocked Delhi prematurely. This gave people relief from the summer heat, but Delhi’s government system was already exposed to rain. After the rain, the joy of relief was less on the faces of the people who came out and the hardship was more.
The day started with tragedy and the roof of Terminal-1 of the airport collapsed. Many cars were buried in it. In which one person died. Roads were so waterlogged that cars and trucks were submerged, trains were standing outside for hours, blackouts in many areas due to lack of electricity. An under-construction building collapsed due to a landslide in Vasant Vihar area. People going to office in the early morning had to face a long traffic jam. Overall, the first day of rain was nothing less than a disaster for the people of Delhi.
Monsoon has arrived
Monsoon has arrived in Delhi on 28 June 2024. According to IMD scientist Seema Sen, monsoon has reached the capital today. At 5.30 am there was a heavy rainfall of 228 mm. After 88 years, Delhi has received such heavy rains in the month of June. He said that the northern limit of Monsoon is 26 degrees North/65 degrees East, Jaisalmer, Churu, Bhiwani, Delhi, Aligarh, Kanpur, Ghazipur, Gonda, Kheri, Moradabad, Dehradun, Una, Pathankot, Jammu, 33 degrees North/74. degree passes through the East.

Water filled everywhere
Many areas of Delhi were flooded in the first rains. Due to waterlogging, there was a long traffic jam at many places. Delhi’s condition has worsened after a day of rain. Roads are so waterlogged that let alone walking, even vehicles fear moving on the road and get stuck. If it rains for some time in areas like Minto Road, Azad Mark, vehicles may get stuck in water on the roads.
Metro stations were also flooded in some areas, causing inconvenience to people. To make people aware of waterlogging on roads, Delhi Traffic Police has also issued a traffic advisory. In which precautions were taken against waterlogging in Azad Market, Akshardham, INA, AIIMS, Madura Road areas.
A portion of the roof collapsed at Delhi Airport Terminal-1
A part of the roof of Terminal-1 of Indira Gandhi International Airport collapsed early on Friday morning. One person has died in this accident, while 8 people have been injured. Due to this big accident in the first rain, many vehicles got stuck at the airport. Flights were affected for hours in the morning.
Emergency meeting of the government
An emergency meeting of the government will also be held regarding the rain in the capital. An emergency meeting may take steps to tackle the problem of waterlogging on Delhi’s roads. There can also be a discussion about not disrupting the movement of vehicles on the roads.
A building collapsed in Vasant Vihar area
An under-construction building in Vasant Vihar collapsed due to prolonged waterlogging due to rains. Three laborers are suspected to be trapped in this house. A team of fire department reached on getting information about the incident and started rescue work. NDRF, DDMA and other agencies have reached the spot.
