In the Chennai Test, Team India played Bangladesh on a red clay pitch. The fast bowlers had little help on this pitch in the first 3 days. The spinners dominated the fourth day. Now the next test is to be held in Kanpur. Only one day left for this. In this match to be held at the Green Park Stadium, the Bangladeshi players will take the field on a black clay pitch. Pitch’s curator Shiv Kumar himself has revealed this. But do you know where the clay came from, how the pitch was prepared and what kind of game is played on it. The Pitch Curator has answered all your questions. Let’s find out what he said.
Where did soil come from, how did IIT Kanpur help?
Clay has been procured from Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao district to use the pitch for the second Test match between India and Bangladesh. According to a PTI report, the soil has been brought from the pond of ‘Kali Mati’, a small village about 23 km from Kanpur.
According to Pitch Curator Shiv Kumar, this is a special type of soil that is found near the lake in this village. After this IIT Kanpur conducted lab test of this soil. After passing the lab test, it was used to make the pitch. An official of the UP Cricket Association revealed that the same clay has been used for the Green Park Stadium pitch for many years.
How will the pitch behave?
The behavior of any pitch depends on the soil used to make it. The characteristics of the ground determine whether it will help spin or fast bowlers. If we talk about black clay pitch of Kanpur, it is usually a bit heavy. It has more moisture inside, which gives grip to the ball and keeps it down. Because of this, it is more helpful for spin bowlers, while a red clay pitch helps fast bowlers more, as was seen in Chennai. However, after the pitch breaks on the fourth day, it also starts to rotate.
According to Pitch Curator Shiv Kumar, Chennai’s match will also be played at Kanpur’s Green Park. There will be something for everyone. The bounce on the pitch will be good in the first two sessions. The batting will be a little easier for the first two days. After this, the spinners will start getting help. According to him, the game should last for 5 days on this pitch.
‘Green Match’ at Green Park
Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association has taken a big decision keeping in mind the environment. To keep the environment clean and to organize ‘green matches’ in green parks, the use of plastic has been banned. UPCS has banned plastic plates for serving food in any manner inside the stadium. In the second Test match, only paper plates will be used.
