Tea seller throws hot tea on sleeping passengers in train, stampede, two dead

Two train passengers have died in a tragic accident in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district. In the chaos caused by the spilling of tea in the general compartment of the train, both the passengers sitting at the gate jumped out of the moving vehicle. The railway police has sent the bodies of both for post-mortem. Among the dead, one person is from Gorakhpur. Another deceased is being identified. The cause of the accident is said to be negligence on the part of the tea vendor.

A GRP officer, giving information, said that chaos broke out between Sagar and Bina stations around 6:30 am on Friday when hot tea was splashed on some passengers in the general compartment. Meanwhile, two passengers were killed after jumping from the train. Three other passengers were burnt due to spilled tea. He is being treated. A mob of passengers caught the tea vendor and handed him over to the railway police.

Spilling of hot tea led to stampede

Government Railway Police (GRP) Inspector Babita Katheria said a tea vendor accidentally threw boiling hot tea on passengers sitting on the floor of a packed train compartment, leading to the stampede. The two people sitting at the door probably panicked and jumped, causing both to be seriously injured and killed. He said that three other passengers were also burnt due to the flowing tea.

The accident was due to vendor error

According to Railway Police, the vendor is a resident of Dabra. He boarded the train from Jhansi to sell tea. After selling tea in a sleeper coach, he reached General Dabba. As he picked up the thermos to pour the tea, the lid suddenly popped open. The hot tea filled in a thermos fell on the three passengers sitting in the bogie. Seeing this, there was chaos and stampede in Bogi.

In which two passengers died

Meanwhile, two passengers sitting at the door of the train got scared and jumped. In which both of them died due to serious injuries. Inspector Satyendra Bhadauria of Bangarh police station said that one of the dead has been identified as Jaswant, who was traveling to Pune by train from Gorakhpur. He said efforts are on to identify the second person, who is aged between 25-30 years. The arrested vendor is being interrogated.
