Narmadapuram in Madhya Pradesh was known as Hoshangabad until a few years ago. This is a small town called ‘Tawa’ in Hoshangabad district. The city came to the attention of tourists after the construction of the dam in 1978. The Tawa Dam is built on the Tawa River, a tributary of the main and sacred Narmada River in Madhya Pradesh.

The economic importance of Tawa Dam is that Madhya Pradesh’s largest hydroelectric project is underway here. Apart from this, the water of this dam is being used extensively for irrigation of agriculture in the surrounding areas. Due to which abundant crops are being produced in this entire area. Apart from this, water is supplied from this dam for drinking purposes in nearby cities.

Historic Tawa Nagar

In ancient times, the city of Tawa was a part of the kingdom of the Gondwa kings, its rulers changed over time, ruled by the Gond kings, the Marathas and then the British. Many historical tourist sites in the area are still present in good condition, chief among them being the Bhimbetka Caves, which have been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. A mixed glimpse of Hindu and Muslim culture can be seen in Tawa. Both the communities living here celebrate each other’s festivals together.

Attractive Tourist Places of Tawa Nagar

A beautiful place like Tava is rare for nature tourists in India. This place has been given the status of a tourist’s paradise. The reservoir of Tawa Dam built amidst the Satpura Hills here is attractive and completely natural. The picture of this dam seems to be a fantasy come true. In which there are mountains around, a big lake of water is visible in the middle and big boats are moving in it.

Morning-evening strolls along the shores of the lake with cool breezes make life stress-free. The Tourism Department of the Government of Madhya Pradesh has arranged a backwater cruise for the tourists visiting here to take in the water to appreciate the natural beauty of the mountains and capture it on camera. For wildlife viewing, there is Satpura National Park near Tawa, where many wild animals can be seen. Apart from this, there are also many trekking and camping sites for the tourists who are fond of camping in the forest.

Right time to see Tawa

Tawa viewing is best done in the monsoon season when there is light rain. During this time, the forest is green all around and small streams of water flow in between, while the weather in October-March remains dry and cool. The weather is hot, dry and scorching from April to June. Tourists coming to Tawa find many guest houses to stay as well as hotels with plenty of food.

Thus we reached Tawa to see the beauty of the city.

Tawa Nagar is located at a distance of about 100 km from Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh and about 250 km from Nagpur by road. Bhopal is directly connected to all the cities of the country and state by road, rail and air. The nearest railway station near Tawa is Itarsi Junction in Madhya Pradesh which is just 30 km from Tawa. So enjoy this year’s Monsoon at the banks of Tawa Lake amidst the Satpura Hills and enjoy the beautiful scenery and pleasant weather here.
