The Pathankot district court of Punjab has sentenced the accused to life imprisonment in the case of the murder of Indian cricketer Suresh Raina’s uncle. A fine of 2 lakh rupees has also been imposed on both of them. All the accused are associated with Babariya gang. In the year 2020, he broke into the house of Suresh Raina’s uncle and carried out the robbery.
The court has declared 12 accused guilty. All have been sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2 lakh. Suresh Raina was playing IPL in Dubai when the incident happened. He left the IPL midway and returned to India from Dubai as soon as news of the incident came to light. Suresh Raina’s uncle Ashok Kumar lived with his family in Thariyal village of Pathankot. On the night of 19 August 2020, he was sleeping on the terrace. Then the members of Babaria gang attacked his house with the intention of robbery.
Women were involved in the gang
The gang broke into the house and looted. Women were also involved in the gang. He attacked the family members as soon as he entered the house. Suresh Raina’s uncle Ashok Kumar and aunt Asha Devi were seriously injured in the attack with sharp weapons. Ashok Kumar was declared dead by the doctors while the aunt went into a coma. Three members of the family are also injured. After the incident, the robbers ran away after looting cash and jewelery from the house. A case was registered in Shapurkundi police station regarding this incident.
12 convicts sentenced to life imprisonment
Police arrested 12 accused involved in this incident and sent them to jail. Many women are also involved in this. The Pathankot District Court while giving its verdict in this case has declared all the accused guilty and sentenced them to life imprisonment along with a financial penalty of 2 lakh rupees. The lawyer of this case, Harish Pathania, said that this incident took place in 2020. Two people died in the robbery incident. One of them included Suresh Raina’s uncle.
