The Supreme Court on Friday, for the first time, interfered with the decision of the Himachal Pradesh Collegium, which ignored the candidature of two senior district judges for promotion to the High Court. The Supreme Court held that the Chief Justice cannot personally reject the candidature of a judicial officer for appointment as a High Court judge.
In fact, the Supreme Court has accepted the plea of ​​two senior district judges and quashed the collegium selection process. A bench of Justices Hrishikesh Roy and Prashant Mishra said the collegium’s decision was effective as the Chief Justice of the High Court had decided not to reconsider the names of the two district judges.

Their names were referred to the High Court by the Supreme Court Collegium for reconsideration. But the High Court Collegium did not do so.
