Subhendu Adhikari hits out at Mamata Banerjee’s threat to break ties with DVC, politics heats up

Amid floods in West Bengal, state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said that she will sever ties with the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC). Leader of Opposition Subhendu Adhikari has hit out at Mamata Banerjee’s threat. He asked if you can break up if you want. Along with this, Shubhendu Adhikari claimed that the Chief Minister is aware of this water shortage.

Let it be known that on Thursday Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited Panshkura in East Medinipur to see the flood situation. Standing there, he said that the West Bengal government should consider whether to maintain any relationship with the DVC or not. The Chief Minister also said that DVC is drowning people. “This flood is not due to rain, but due to release of water,” he said.

When the Chief Minister spoke about the role of the DVC, Subhendu Adhikari said, “What does he mean by saying these things? He expressed concern. He said that DVRRC has a committee. Damodar Valley Reservoir Regulation Committee. It has representatives of West Bengal Government, Jharkhand Government, Central Water Commission and DVC as its representatives.

He said the DVC released water in the dam when it was overloaded. He informed and warned the West Bengal Government as per rules. He claimed that not a single cusec of water was taken without the government’s permission.

Police are retaliating

He tweeted that it seems that after Mamata Banerjee talked about severing ties with the DVC, she has mainly asked the police to separate Bengal from Jharkhand as a revenge strategy.

He said the police illegally blocked the national highway at Chichira in Jhargram administrative district and Kulti in West Bardhaman administrative district.

Trucks coming to other states are being stopped

He said the ferocity of police officials in West Bengal was evident as trucks carrying relief materials for flood-affected areas as well as trucks carrying general merchandise from Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra were also illegally blocked and stopped.

Moreover, the locations where such roadblocks have been erected by the West Bengal Police on national highways are the main arterial routes that connect West Bengal and the North East with the northern part of the country. It connects the north-eastern part. The country is completely cut off and as a result, there may soon be a situation where there will be a crisis of essential supplies in North-East India.
