Student Union Elections: Independent Anurag Dalal becomes PU’s new president, NSUI remains fourth.

Student union election in Punjab University.

Independent candidate Anurag Dalal has won the president post of the prestigious Punjab University (PU) Students Union in Chandigarh. He was in direct competition with Prince Chaudhary of Aam Aadmi Party’s student wing Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS). He got 3434 votes, while Prince got 3129 votes. ABVP’s Amrita Malik stood third with 1114 votes, while the NSUI candidate stood fourth.

In fact, polling was held amid tight security on Thursday for the election of new members of the Punjab University Campus Student Council. Officials said that 15,854 students of the university were eligible to vote and the polling started at 9.30 am and continued till 11 am.

Archit Garg became the Vice President of NSUI

NSUI’s Archit Garg has won the Vice President post with 3631 votes. While Vineet Yadav of INSO won the post of secretary by getting 3298 votes. ABVP’s Jaswinder Rana won the post of joint secretary. He got 3489 votes.

23 candidates tried their luck

A total of 23 candidates were in the fray in this election. Eight candidates were trying their luck for the post of President, four for the post of Secretary, five for the post of Vice President and six for the post of Joint Secretary. At the same time, 180 polling centers were set up where 300 ballot boxes were kept.

Anurag Dalal became the President

In the race for the post of president were Prince Chaudhary of CYSS, Rahul Nain of NSUI, Tarun Sidhu of SOI and Sara Sharma of PSU-Lalkar. Apart from this, ABVP’s Arpita Malik, ASF’s Alka, independent Anurag Dalal and Team Mukul’s Mukul Chauhan also tried their luck for the post of PUCSC president. In which independent Anurag Dalal won by leaving everyone behind.

A contender for the vice presidency

Apart from NSUI’s Archit Garg, ABVP’s Abhishek Kapoor, Karandeep Singh, University Student Organization (USO)’s Karanveer Kumar and Shivani contested for the post of vice-president. Apart from this, Jashanpreet Singh of Punjab University Students Organization (SOPU), Paras Parashar of NSUI, Shivanandan Rikhi of ABVP and Vineet Yadav of Indian National Students Organization (INSO) contested for the post of secretary.

A thousand policemen remained deployed

Amit Banga of Punjab University Students Union (PUSU), Jaswinder Rana of ABVP, Rohit Sharma of Himachal Pradesh Students Union (HPSU), Shubham of Hindustan Students Association (HSA) and two others tried their luck for the post of joint secretary. About a thousand policemen were deployed for the polling.
