Strict on water supply, scold officials… Chief Secretary visits Namami Gange

Namami Gange and Principal Secretary of Rural Water Supply Department reached Kanpur Dehat in Uttar Pradesh to inspect Jal Jeevan Mission Yojana. He reprimanded the officials. Officials warned that if the water supply is stopped, they will be in trouble. During the inspection of the project, the Principal Secretary sternly said that the managers of the agency should be ready to go to jail. At the time of inspection, the Principal Secretary also took information from the team that checked the water including water tanks, pumps. Meanwhile, he took information from the water testing and awareness team in the village.

The Principal Secretary also reprimanded the officials for their negligence. He said that the roads should be repaired immediately after laying the pipeline. He said that if the water supply is disrupted in the villages, the health of the officials will not be good. If the water supply is disrupted, the managers of the agencies will be responsible. He warned that if the situation does not improve soon, prepare to file an FIR and go to jail.

Interrogated the women

The Principal Secretary questioned the women about the importance of water. Also information was taken from women about diseases caused by contaminated water. The concerned officials were instructed to conduct village-to-village awareness campaigns before the onset of rains to inform them about the disadvantages of contaminated drinking water.

Principal Secretary Anurag Srivastava warned the officials about the daily wastage of water due to open taps in the village. He said that every drop of water is life giving. It should not be wasted under any circumstances. It is the responsibility of the authorities as well as the voluntary organizations to see that the villagers are made aware. The Chief Secretary’s stance on road repairs was strict due to the digging of pipelines on roads.
