After the presidential election, Rahul Gandhi was elected the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. After this election, Rahul Gandhi met Speaker Om Birla.

The Lok Sabha Speaker declared Rahul Gandhi as the leader of the opposition. After this, Rahul Gandhi met the Speaker along with the leaders of the alliance. On this occasion, SP MP Dharmendra Yadav, DMK’s Kanimoli, NCP’s Supriya Sule and Trinamool Congress’ Kalyan Banerjee were present with him.

Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal informed about the visit of Speaker Om Birla. It was a courtesy meeting. Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi raised the issue of declaring emergency in the House. Rahul Gandhi objected to the mention of emergency in the House. He told that Rahul Gandhi told the President that it was political and could have been avoided.

KC Venugopal said, “We discussed many things regarding the functioning of Parliament. He informed the Speaker about the emergency. It was clearly a political reference. This could have been avoided. This was Rahul Gandhi’s first meeting with the Speaker after assuming the responsibility of the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
