Haryana Assembly Election 2024

Political parties have fielded their respective commanders to win the political battle of Haryana assembly elections. There are half a dozen such political families in state politics, around which Haryana politics is centered. These political families have been dominating various areas of the state for a long time and they do not want to let it slip out of their grip under any circumstances. This time in the assembly elections, the third generation in some political families and some fourth generation have come to try their luck in the elections?

Grandsons of four former chief ministers of the state have contested the elections. Apart from this, the families of former ministers, MPs and MLAs are also trying their luck in the assembly elections. The fourth generation of Chaudhary Sir Chhotu Ram and Chaudhary Devilal family have contested assembly elections, while not former CM Bhajan Lal, Chaudhary Bansilal and Rao Birendra Singh, but the third generation of Rao Abhay Singh, Shamsher Singh Surjewala and Chaudhary Taib Hussain have contested. He contested the election this time too. Thus, the 2024 election has become a launching pad for the leaders of Haryana’s political families.

The third generation of the Surjewala family

Congress has fielded National General Secretary Randeep Surjewala’s son Aditya Surjewala as its candidate from Kaithal assembly seat. Thus the third generation of the Surjewala family has entered politics. Randeep Surjewala’s father Shamsher Surjewala was the first Agriculture and Cooperation Minister of Haryana. Shamsher Surjewala became an MLA for the first time in 1967. After this he became MLA in 1977, 1982, 1991 and 2005 and MP in 1993. After this, Randeep Surjewala took over his father’s political legacy and became an MLA in the 1993 by-election.

He was a minister in the Hooda government in 2005 and 2009, but lost the election in 2019. Surjewala is a member of the Rajya Sabha and was seeking a ticket for the assembly elections, but instead of giving him a ticket, the party has fielded his son Aditya Surjewala as its candidate. If Aditya succeeds in winning the elections, he will continue the political legacy of his grandfather and father.

Devilal’s third to fourth generation in politics

Chaudhary Devilal was considered a stalwart in Haryana politics, having made the journey from CM to Deputy PM of the country. This time eight members of Devilal family are trying their luck in the election field. Congress has made Anirudh Chaudhary, son of Bansi Lal’s second son Ranbir Mahendra, its candidate for this seat. Shruti has been an MP before while Anirudh is contesting assembly elections for the first time. Thus there is competition between brother and sister on the Tosham seat. Shruti is the granddaughter of former CM Bansilal and Anirudh is the grandson. This is also being called a battle for Bansilal’s political legacy.

Former Haryana CM Rao Birendra Singh’s son Rao Indrajit is a minister in the Modi government at the Centre. Rao Indrajit is considered a seasoned player in South Haryana politics.
