In Madhya Pradesh, the state’s first skin bank has been launched as an innovation at Hamidia Hospital in Bhopal. This skin bank, prepared at a cost of around 15 lakh rupees, will collect skin donations from people. The skin will be used to treat and skin patients with more than 50 percent burn injuries. This information was given by Dr. Arun Bhatnagar, HOD of Burn and Plastic Surgery Department of the hospital. He said that skin donation will be done here from back, thigh and leg only.
Dr. According to Bhatnagar, patients who have been injured in a fire or accident often experience peeling skin. Due to which their skin becomes permanently damaged. This skin bank has been started to treat such patients. He said that a toll free number 18003090185 has been issued in the state for any information related to eye donation and skin donation. According to Dr. Bhatnagar, certain norms have been set for skin donation, according to which skin is donated only from the back, thighs and legs. It will then be used on more than 50 percent of burn patients and accident-injured patients.
A healthy person can also donate skin
Skin will be taken from this skin bank and applied to patients whose skin has completely ruptured. By grafting skin to the injured areas, the patient will be able to regain its old form. In this, they will also have a relatively low risk of infection. He said that blood sample is also taken from the body while cutting the skin. In this, it is specifically observed that the donor should not be positive in HIV, viral markers and hepatitis tests. He said that skin donation is a noble act and any healthy person can donate skin as per their wish.
