CNG and PNG prices have increased in this major city of the country.

Ahead of the budget, common people were in for a huge shock regarding the prices of CNG and PNG. After Delhi, CNG prices in Mumbai have increased by Rs 1.50 per kg. While the price of PNG, the gas that reaches the kitchen through pipes, has increased by one rupee. The prices have increased mainly due to the rising cost of raw materials. Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL), which supplies CNG to vehicles and cooking gas through pipes to households in Mumbai and surrounding towns, said the price hike will come into effect from midnight of July 8.

How much did it cost

To cope with the increasing volumes of CNG and PNG and reduction in domestic gas allocation, MGL is procuring natural gas (imported LNG) at additional market price, the company said in a statement. Due to this, the cost of gas has increased. According to the statement, to partially cover the increase in gas cost, MGL has increased the price of CNG by Rs 1.50 per kg and that of domestic PNG by Rs 1 per standard cubic metre (SCM) in and around Mumbai. After this increase, the revised price of CNG will be Rs 75 per kg, inclusive of all taxes. While the price of domestic PNG in and around Mumbai will be Rs 48 per SCM.

lowest price in the country

The company said that even after the above revision, MGL’s CNG is about 50 per cent and 17 per cent cheaper than petrol and diesel, respectively, at the current price level in Mumbai. The company said that despite the marginal increase, MGL’s domestic CNG and LPG prices are the lowest in the country.

It is noteworthy that for the national capital and surrounding cities, Indraprastha Gas Limited had increased the CNG price in Delhi by Rs 1 per kg to Rs 75.09 on June 22. However, the company did not revise the PNG price and kept it at Rs 48.59 per SCM.
