Politics has heated up over the incident of the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj falling in Maharashtra. Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar) President Sharad Pawar on Sunday said that the opposition will not rest until the Mahayuti government is ousted from power in Maharashtra in the next two months. He said that now a new government will be formed in Maharashtra on the ideals of Chhatrapati Shivaji.

Addressing party workers in Mumbai’s Ghatkopar, Sharad Pawar criticized the state government over the vandalism of a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of the Maratha Empire, in Sindhudurg district on August 26.

We have to answer from the government

Sharad Pawar said that today the Maharashtra government is saying that they will install a new statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji, ok then we will see. But what about the incident in Malvan? What about the troublemakers? We live in Maharashtra, the state of Chhatrapati and we are proud of it. But the present government has no respect for Shivaji. So, a hasty wrong decision was taken to install his statue, which led to this. The government has to answer for this.

Mahayuti has no faith in Shivaji

He said that people in power in the state do not have faith in Shivaji Maharaj. Sharad Pawar said that I assure you (party workers) that if you show your unity, we will not remain silent until the government changes in Maharashtra in the next two months and a new government is formed on the ideals of Shivaji Maharaj and protects the interests of the people.

A controversy has arisen in the state over the fall of the statue of Shivaji Maharaj installed in the fort of Rajkot in Malvan taluka. The opposition has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led coalition of corruption and insulting Shivaji.

Protest march to Gateway of India

Earlier in the day, Sharad Pawar joined a protest march taken out by the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) from Hutatma Chowk to Gateway of India in south Mumbai over the fall of Shivaji’s statue. Let us tell you that the elections for the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly may be held in October or November.
