Sharad Pawar and Nan Patol
In the Maharashtra Legislative Council (MLC) elections, there is a big game with Sharad Pawar. Sharad Pawar’s supported candidate Jayant Patil has lost the election. Out of 11 seats polled, NDA has won 9 seats, while Mahavikas Aghadi has won 2 seats. This time 12 candidates were in the fray in the MLC election.
There were already apprehensions that cross-voting might lead to something or the other. Now that the results are in, the biggest blow to Sharad Pawar has come from his old ally Congress. Let’s understand how Congress spoiled Pawar’s game in MLC elections…
Congress got 25 votes in its favour
Congress had a total of 37 votes in the assembly and needed only 23 votes to win. However, Congress played the safe side. Congress got 25 MLAs to vote in favor of its candidate Pragya Satav.
Pragya Satav of Congress won the election easily by 25 votes. Congress sources say that last time its candidate Chandrakant Handor lost the election in a very close fight, so the party is not taking any risks this time.
No information was taken about the rest of the MLAs.
Congress has not taken any information about MLAs except 25 MLAs allotted for Pragya Satav. Neither linked him to anyone nor instructed him to vote strictly.
7-8 Congress MLAs have done cross voting during voting. According to sources, only one MLA, Jeeshan Siddiqui, has been identified so far. Recently, Zeeshan left Congress and joined NCP (Ajit).
Uddhav got votes from SP and Shiv Sena got votes from Congress ally Samajwadi Party and other smaller parties. According to the Election Commission, Shiv Sena’s (UBT) Milind Narvekar got 22 votes in the first preference, while he had only 17 votes.
Uddhav got 2 votes from SP and 3 votes from other smaller parties. Sharad Pawar’s candidate Jayant Patil got only 12 votes. All these MLAs were already with Sharad Pawar.
Cross voting in support of Ajith?
This time, Ajit Pawar has played in the Legislative Council elections of Maharashtra. BJP fielded 4 candidates in the election and had enough votes along with independents to make its candidates victorious. Similarly, Shinde also had votes available to win his two candidates.
Ajith had only 42 votes and needed a total of 46 votes. According to the Election Commission, Ajith’s two candidates got a total of 47 votes. It is being said that 5 Congress MLAs have cross-voted in favor of the Ajit group.
