People say about this temple that hundreds of years ago a cow used to come to this place and when she stood at the place of Lord Dugdheshwarnath temple, milk started flowing from the udder of the mother cow. The news gradually reached Harisinha Maharaj, king of Satyastha kingdom of Rudrapur. The Maharaja of Satyastha Rajya was also surprised to hear this and reached the same place with his troops the next morning.
Shivlinga was going down during excavation
After this the Maharaja instructed his workers to excavate the place. Excavation started at that place the next day. The deeper it was dug, the lower the Shivlinga went. Seeing this wonderful phenomenon, the king stopped the excavation and then started worshiping there. The biggest belief here is that Rudrapur was settled by King Vashishta Sen. This Rudrapur holds memories of the important role played by the Rudrapur state during the 1857 war against the British rule.
