Bidding started for the post of Sarpanch in Gurdaspur, Punjab

After the announcement of panchayat elections in Punjab, the candidates have started preparations. Meanwhile, a bid of 2 crore rupees was made for the post of Sarpanch in Gurdaspur on Sunday. The bidding for the post of sarpanch in Dera Baba Nanak’s village Hardorwal Kalan was held on Sunday. The bid has been made with the consent of the villagers. According to the villagers, the money received from the bid will be spent on the development works of the village. 2 crore bidder Atma Singh belongs to Bharatiya Janata Party. It is being claimed that this type of bidding for the post of Sarpanch is being held for the first time in the village.

Atma Singh, Jaswinder Singh Bedi, Nirvair Singh were among the bidders. Bidding was announced from the village to Gurdwara Sahib. However, no representatives of Aam Aadmi Party, Congress and Akali Dal came.

Jaswinder Singh Bedi was the first to bid Rs 1 crore. But Atma Singh immediately bid 2 crore rupees. No one else bid after this. Bidding is scheduled for this evening. If someone else wants to raise the bid, he can speak. Atma Singh’s father has also been a sarpanch. As of 2011 census, the village has a population of 4742. At the same time, the number of houses in the village is about 800.

Election on 15 October

However, public votes are required for selection of Sarpanch. Selection of Sarpanch by bidding is completely wrong. However, no complaint has reached the administration regarding this. Elections will be held on October 15 in more than 13,000 gram panchayats in Punjab. A model code of conduct has been implemented in view of panchayat elections. October 4 is the last date for nominations. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on October 5.
