Ever since Sanath Jayasuriya joined the Sri Lankan team, he has undergone a complete transformation. He was made the interim coach of the team in July this year. Since then Sri Lanka have achieved many big victories. First he gave Team India a 2-0 clean sweep in an ODI series after 27 years. Then 10 years later they won the Test match in England and now beat New Zealand 2-0 in the Test series. Jayasuriya has benefited from this brilliant performance in the last three months. The Sri Lanka Cricket Board has extended his contract for another year. Now he has been made the head coach of the team from the interim coach for the next one year.
