Four days after the rape and murder of a trainee doctor, Kolkata’s government RG Kar Medical College and Hospital principal Sandeep Ghosh resigned from his post on Monday morning. The protesters were demanding the resignation of Dr. Sandeep Ghosh from the very first day of the incident. However, within hours of Ghosh’s resignation, the Mamata Banerjee government in the state announced that he would be made principal of several other medical colleges.
Acharya Sandeep Ghosh is constantly in the news for various reasons. There were many allegations of corruption against him. The junior doctors have been extremely upset and have been protesting continuously since the killings, which have almost brought services to a standstill in government hospitals. Seeing the displeasure, Sandeep Ghosh announced his resignation from his post on Monday morning. He sent his resignation letter to Swasthya Bhavan and said that he is now resigning from the government job. However, after some time Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that Sandeep Ghosh has been asked to work somewhere else.

CM Mamata visited the victim’s home during the day today and within hours of meeting her family, Sandeep Ghosh’s new appointment was announced. The Health Department informed on Monday afternoon that Sandeep Ghosh has been appointed as the new Principal of the National Medical College. When Ajay Roy, who was the principal before him, was removed. He has been removed from the post of Principal and sent as OSD of Swasthya Bhavan. However, Ajay Roy’s tenure was to end this month.
In such a situation, it is being said that the government has not accepted the resignation of Sandeep Ghosh, but has transferred him. Now the big question arises that even after such a big incident, why is the TMC government still trusting Dr. Sandeep Ghosh?

After meeting the victim’s family, CM Banerjee said that the principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has resigned from his post. He said, “Ghosh (principal) told us about the obscenity he faced after the incident. We have transferred him to another department. We have also removed the medical superintendent cum vice principal of the hospital for negligence. The Kolkata Police ACP in charge of hospital security has also been removed.
The opposition attacked Mamata’s decision
The opposition has become aggressive on this decision of the government. The opposition has started raising questions. “Sandeep Ghosh has been a pillar of the ruling party since the beginning,” said Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Jagannath Chattopadhyay. He also claimed that this same Sandeep Ghosh had once sent the Imam to the Health Secretary to stop the transfer.
There have been several complaints against Principal Sandeep Ghosh regarding corruption. Serious allegations have been leveled against him, ranging from corruption to nepotism. The matter reached the court. But he continued as Principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. However, he was made principal of another hospital when he announced his resignation following the rape and murder case.
