A Delhi lower court has acquitted 10 accused in the case of the riots that took place in North East Delhi four years ago in February 2020. The court in its decision said that all the accused in this case have not been proved beyond doubt, hence they have been acquitted.
In its decision, the Karkarduma court acquitted the accused and said that the statements and evidence of the 3 prosecution witnesses cannot be trusted. All the charges leveled against all the accused in this case have not been proved beyond doubt. The court acquitted the accused and gave them the benefit of doubt.
Accused involved in Delhi riots acquitted
After a long hearing, the Karkarduma court acquitted Mohammad Shahnawaz alias Shanu, Mohammad Shoaib alias Chutwa, Shah Rukh, Rashid alias Raja, Azad, Ashraf Ali, Parvez, Mohammad Faisal, Rashid alias Monu and Mohammad Tahir in the Delhi riots case.
In early 2020, an FIR was registered at the Dayalpur police station in connection with a mob attack on a mosque and some women sitting on a dharna during the riots between 23 and 25 February in North East Delhi. The case was registered on Monday after 4 and a half years on the order given by the Karkarduma court on August 31 last month.
How many lives were lost in the Delhi riots?
Apart from these riots, the Delhi Police has imposed a section related to destruction of places of worship and arson. The names of three have also come up in this case. The case is related to the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) at Brijpuri Pulia.
More than 50 people lost their lives in the riots between February 23 and February 25 in the year 2024, while a large number of people were injured. So far 760 cases have been registered in this matter.
