Those who damage public property during riots and protests in Uttarakhand will be fined and prosecuted. State Governor Lt. General (retd) Gurmeet Singh has approved a bill in this regard. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami welcomed him and thanked the Governor. The Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly had sent this bill to the Governor for approval last month.
Governor Lieut. General (retd) Gurmeet Singh approved the bill on Thursday. The bill is named Uttarakhand Public and Private Property Compensation Recovery Bill. According to the bill, rioters and those who damage public property will be fully recovered for damages and may be fined up to Rs 8 lakh.
Effective measures against crime- Dhami
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami thanked the Governor and said that this law is an effective measure against crime. He said that damage to public property during riots, protests and sit-ins would fall under the category of crime. Anyone who violates this will be punished. He said that the person himself will be responsible for the damage to public property.
Chief Minister Dhami said that the purpose of this law is not to put anyone in fear but to prevent damage to government property. According to this bill, the rioters will not only have to compensate the damage to the property but also the expenses incurred on the government employees during riot control.
There was a commotion in Banbhulpura of Haldwani.

Seeing this loss, the government decided to make a law. The law was first introduced as an ordinance in March.
The riots erupted after the demolition of a religious site illegally built on encroached land in Banbhulpura area. The rioters created a lot of commotion. The rioters also set fire to the police station and vehicles parked there. 6 people lost their lives in this incident. Apart from this, many police personnel and journalists have been injured.
