There was a lot of controversy regarding Ranbir Kapoor’s film Animal, which released in December last year. The film was termed as anti-women. Veteran actors like Javed Akhtar also opposed the content of the film. As much as there was controversy about this film, it also earned huge money at the box office. Now for the first time, Ranbir Kapoor has reacted to the controversy associated with the film. He blamed social media for the entire animal controversy.

Ranbir Kapoor spoke for the first time on Nikhil Kamat’s podcast on the animal controversy. He said, “This whole thing is because of social media. He wanted a point for discussion so he chose this and then started calling the film anti-women. In such a situation, the hard work that was put into the film… I know that the director who made Kabir Singh had to face similar things, in such a situation, hard work is out of the question.

Ranbir Kapoor apologized to people

Ranbir Kapoor said, “Because he was given that tag, which is not true, but the perception remained attached to the film. The general public spoke well about the film, but I also met many people who said you should not have done this film, we are very disappointed with you. And many people in the film industry also said (the same). I silently apologized and said that I will not do this in future. I don’t agree with him, but I’m at a stage in my life where I don’t want to argue with anyone. If you don’t like my work, I’ll say I’m sorry, I’ll work harder next time.”

Meanwhile, Ranbir Kapoor definitely said that he did Animal only to shed his ‘chocolate boy’ image. He said, “In my career, I always followed a path where I played good characters, tried to give a good social message, played a good boy…so I rated it very bold and mature. I was also afraid that the audience might not accept me. When the film released and was doing good business and getting a lot of love, there was a huge audience who felt that it was an anti-women and misogynistic film.

Animal box office and cast

There was a lot of uproar over Animal, but his earnings continued to grow. The film collected 915 crore rupees worldwide. The film did a net business of Rs 553.87 crore at the domestic box office alone. Apart from Ranbir Kapoor, stars like Anil Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Bobby Deol and Tripti Dimri were seen in this film. The film hit the big screens on 1 December 2023. Now the audience is waiting for the second part of this film i.e. Animal Park.
