Protest against rape and murder of female doctor and Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata.
During the 34-year rule of the Left Front in West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee gave a tough challenge to the Left and ended the Left rule in 2011 and became the Chief Minister. After nearly 13 years of rule, Mamata Banerjee faced a stiff challenge from the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections 2019, but returned to power in the 2021 assembly elections, becoming the chief minister of the state for the third time. Known as a militant leader and a leader who emerged from the movement, Mamata Banerjee has never bowed down to her opponents.
The opposition has been constantly demanding her resignation over allegations ranging from corruption to various damages, but Mamata Banerjee never said she was ready to resign, but what was the junior doctors’ movement in the rape-murder case of a lady doctor in Kolkata did Mamata Banerjee do? Or did he offer to resign?

Mamata on the backfoot after Lady Doctor’s death
On August 9, the dead body of a woman doctor was found at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata. After the body was found, the hospital authorities initially ruled it a suicide, but a post-mortem later confirmed that the lady doctor had been raped and murdered. An accused civilian volunteer, Sanjay Roy, was also arrested in the case, but the Calcutta High Court ordered a CBI probe into the case. Sandeep Ghosh, principal of the college, was accused of corruption and tampering with evidence. A CBI inquiry has been ordered in the corruption case. The ED has also started a probe into financial irregularities in the RG tax, but agitations continue across the country demanding justice.
Continuous movement of doctors demanding justice
From nocturnal curfews to switching off of lights, there were nightly disturbances across the country, including Kolkata. The junior doctors of RG Kar are on a continuous strike, although the Supreme Court has directed the doctors to join in its order, but the junior doctors are protesting outside the Swasthya Bhawan despite the Supreme Court’s instructions. Services are being disrupted in the medical college. Mamata Banerjee has claimed that 27 patients have died due to lack of treatment.
In this regard, the state government called for a dialogue with the agitating doctors. Chief Secretary Manoj Pant invited the doctors for talks, but the round of invitations continued for three days and finally the doctors came to the State Secretariat, Nabanna, but the talks could not take place. Controversy arose over the live stream of the conversation. Doctors demanded live streaming of the conversation, but Mamata Banerjee’s government rejected it.
Mamata apologized to the public
After which Mamata Banerjee held a press conference and said that she sat in Nabanna’s auditorium for more than two hours. But the meeting could not take place. He said he was ready to resign. But some people don’t want justice. Need seat of power.I have been insulted a lot. My government has been insulted. Now I will not sit with them. If there is a meeting then DG and Chief Secretary will hold the meeting.
Mamata Banerjee also raised the issue of the Supreme Court order. He said that according to the order of the Supreme Court, the time has passed. As far as I know, the Supreme Court has said, they will not stop the state from taking action, but I will not do anything. Many people do not receive treatment. While 27 people have died. Seven lakh people are deprived. My heart cries, they are small, I forgive them. I apologize to people. Tried for three days, but no solution.
Stop talking on live telecast, doctors are firm
After Mamata Banerjee’s statement, BJP leader Shubhendu Adhikari said that the government had published pictures of Nabanna’s meeting room to influence the court. The live telecast of the meeting has nothing to do with the Supreme Court hearing.
Supreme Court hearings are also telecasted live, the contempt of court has nothing to do with what was to be discussed. It’s all drama. His mask was likely to be exposed. So he did not accept the reasonable demand. She doesn’t want the stalemate to end.
Doctors are all set to protest for the next 33 days
At the same time, the agitating junior doctors again held a press conference in front of Arogya Bhavan. They will be on the road for the next 33 days, he said in a warning tone. Junior doctors said that such incidents should not happen again in future.
To make sure of thatThe people who were involved in the incident, those who wanted to cover up the incident wanted punishment. We trusted the Chief Minister’s chair, but there was no solution. The doctors made it clear that they never asked for the resignation of the Chief Minister. They are demanding justice and security.
Mamata did not face the opposition but the challenge from the youth
Political analyst Partha Mukhopadhyay says that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has always challenged the opposition, but for the first time she is being challenged and the most surprising thing is that she is not getting this challenge from the opposition, but from junior doctors. The Kolkata rape case has exposed the corruption of Mamata Banerjee’s government. He is under full pressure. It seems like the way Jyoti Basu handed over the post of CM to Buddhadev Bhattacharya in the middle of his tenure.
Perhaps Mamata Banerjee is also planning to hand over the post of CM or Deputy CM to Abhishek Banerjee. Mamata Banerjee has already instructed the party leaders not to make a statement on the issue. Party MP Jawahar Sarkar has resigned. The party’s other Rajya Sabha MP Sukhendu Shekhar Roy is also in a revolt mood. In such a situation, Mamata Banerjee is under full pressure.
No action, Mamata hopes from the Supreme Court
Also, political experts say that Mamata Banerjee is working under the strategy. Mamata Banerjee’s government is already on the backfoot in the Kolkata rape case and Mamata Banerjee’s government has been exposed and criticized across the country. In such a situation, if the government of Mamata Banerjee takes strict action against the agitating doctors, the government will suffer more. In such a situation, Mamata Banerjee is taking bold steps and during the upcoming hearing in the Supreme Court, Mamata Banerjee’s government will narrate the entire story before the Supreme Court and request the Supreme Court to take action on the doctors’ agitation. This will kill the snake and the stick will not break.
