Mahakumbh is going to be organized in Prayagraj, the city of faith and religion. There is a growing demand to change the name of the Peshwai, which is taken on the occasion of the entry of akhadas into the city and the royal bathing of akhadas on major bathing festivals before the Mahakumbh. Sadhu Saints are demanding the renaming of the Mughal era names Peshwai and the royal bath. The Saint Mahatmas of several Akharas who have gathered at the Shree Panchayati Akhara Bada Udsan at Kidganj in Sangam city Prayagraj have once again raised the demand to change the name of Peshwai and Shahi Bath. However, the final decision in this regard is to be taken by Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad, the supreme body of saints.

Regarding changing the name of Peshwai and Shahi Baths, Mahant Gopal Dasji Maharaj, a saint of Nirvana Ani Akhara, says that people and nations should also change with time. He supported the demand of Sadhu-Santas to change the name of Peshwai and Shahi Snan. He said that in our ancient tradition, words from the Mughal period should be removed and Sanskrit words should be used. He said that for Peshwai and Shahi Snan, words should be used which are associated with Sanatan and which we are proud of.

Saints supported

Mahant Gopal Dasji Maharaj said that instead of Shahi Snan, it can be called Divya Snan, Amrit Snan or Shahi Snan. At the same time, the Saints have also supported the demand to change the name of the Peshwais who are taken out at the entrance of the Akhara to the city before Kumbh and to change the name of the entrance to the camp. Actually, before Kumbh and Maha Kumbh the Mahamandleshwar and Mandalashwar Mahant of the akhadas, Shri Mahant and other Rishi saints along with the band enter the city with the presiding deity of the akhadas and flags, a tradition known as Peshwai. But now there is a demand to call Peshwa as a cantonment entry. According to Mahant Gopal Dasji Maharaj, when a war broke out between two kings, it was called the entry of the camp. According to Mahant Gopal Dasji, soon there will be a meeting between the officials of all the Akharas in which a proper decision will be taken in this matter.

Akharas are very ancient institutions

In this case, according to Mahant Yamuna Puri Maharaj, secretary of Sri Panchayati Akhara Mahanirvani, Akharas are very ancient institutions. According to him, many items in the akhadas date back to the Mughal period. He has said that as far as royal baths and changing names of Peshwas are concerned, Urdu and Persian words are used in court to government affairs. Details of the Peshwai and the royal bath are also available in the old documents of the Akhara, but Mahant Yamuna Puri says that if the name is to be changed, reforms will have to be made everywhere. He said that several meetings of Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad are proposed before the Kumbh Mela in which a unanimous decision will be taken after deliberation. He has said that the world is changing and Hindi is our mother tongue, so we should be proud of our language and dialect.

Both groups are likely to unite

Mahant Yamuna Puri has said that culturally all Akharas are one, bathing of all Akharas takes place at their own scheduled times. The procession is also taken out on time. He said there was no difference between the arenas. All Akharas are followers of Sanatan tradition. It is the responsibility of all Akharas to propagate Sanatan Dharma and all Akharas are doing the same.
