Prime Minister Narendra Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address an election rally in Srinagar on Thursday. His rally is to be held at 12 noon. Ahead of PM Modi’s proposed election rally, security has been tightened in the area around Sher-e-Kashmir Park in the capital Srinagar. A multi-layered security cordon has been set up there. This is PM Modi’s first rally in support of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates in the Kashmir Valley ahead of the three-phase assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
This rally of PM Modi is being held within one kilometer radius of the famous Lal Chowk clock tower. This is Modi’s third visit to Kashmir this year. Earlier he had addressed a rally at Bakshi Stadium on March 7. Then on 21st June he participated in International Yoga Day program organized at SKICC. However, before this, PM Modi had addressed an election rally in Doda last week before the first phase of polling.
Tight security arrangements for the rally
Meanwhile, regarding security ahead of PM Modi’s rally, Inspector General of Police (IG) VK Birdy said, “We have arranged multi-layered security for the VVIP visit as per standard operating procedure (SOP) prescribed for such events.” Birdy said that the police have made adequate security arrangements.
According to officials, a large number of security personnel have been deployed on the roads leading to PM Modi’s rally venue. Police and paramilitary personnel are checking vehicles at dozens of places and special check posts have also been set up.
