Parliament security breach case: Accused to be booked under UAPA, police file supplementary charge sheet

Delhi Police’s Special Cell has filed a supplementary chargesheet in the Parliament security lapse case. After getting permission from LG VK Saxena to prosecute all the accused under UAPA, the special cell filed the charge sheet in the Patiala House Court on Monday. Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Advocate Akhand Pratap Singh Additional Sessions Judge Dr. Hardeep Kaur informed that the investigating agency has obtained approval from the concerned authorities for action under Section 13 of the UAPA. SPP Akhand Pratap also told the court that some FSL reports are awaited which will be submitted soon.

After considering the arguments, the Additional Sessions Judge listed the case for arguments on cognizance on August 2, 2024. Meanwhile, the court has also extended the judicial custody of all the accused till the same date.

1000 page charge sheet

Earlier on June 7, 2024, the Delhi Police had filed a nearly 1000-page charge sheet against all the six arrested accused Manoranjan D, Lalit Jha, Amol Shinde, Mahesh Kumawat, Sagar Sharma and Neelam Azad. Delhi LG VK Saxena recently approved action under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act against the accused in the Parliament attack. On December 13 last year, the case of a breach in Parliament’s security came to light.

Six people namely Manoranjan D, Sagar Sharma, Amol Dhanraj Shinde, Neelam Ranolia, Lalit Jha and Mahesh Kumawat have been accused of illegally entering Parliament during a live session and spreading smoke in the Lok Sabha. The Delhi Police requested the Lt. Governor to take action against the accused under Sections 16 and 18 of the UAPA. Delhi Police registered an FIR under Section 186/353/452/153/34/120B of IPC and 13/16/18 UA (P) Act at the Parliament Marg Police Station.

The investigation of the case was later transferred from the Parliament Marg Police Station to the Counter Intelligence Unit of the PS Special Cell, New Delhi. Six accused were arrested during the investigation and all of them are currently in judicial custody.
