Babar Azam has resigned from the captaincy of Pakistan’s ODI and T20 teams. But, after his resignation, PCB i.e. Pakistan Cricket Board is in trouble. The question is, who should he make captain? As an answer to this question, PCB currently has 3 names of players. PCB is eyeing those 3 players as they have experience of captaincy at some level. He has also taken the reins of the team in international cricket. The three players we are talking about who are contenders to replace Babar Azam as captain include the names of Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shadab Khan and Mohammad Rizwan.
Who is the next white ball cricket captain of Pakistan?
So will PCB appoint one of these three as the captain instead of Babar Azam? Can’t say for sure but can definitely expect it. Pakistan has to face teams like Australia, South Africa, Zimbabwe in white ball cricket. It is also to host the Champions Trophy. In such a situation, it is necessary to choose a new captain first. Let’s know one by one why Shaheen, Shadab and Rizwan can be contenders for Babar Azam?
Shaheen Shah Afridi
Shaheen Shah Afridi has the experience of captaining Pakistan. He captained Pakistan in 5 T20Is, losing 4 of them. They have won only 1 match. It is clear that this captaincy figure is not the best but it is also true that Shaheen did not get many opportunities to captain and make the team. Because, he is also the captain who has won not one but 2 PSL titles. Shaheen was suddenly removed from Pakistan’s T20 captaincy, which was followed by an uproar. Now that Babar himself has resigned, the PCB may give another chance to Shaheen, whose name has also been approved by many stalwarts.
Shadab Khan
Like Shaheen, Shadab also has the experience of captaining Pakistan. At the age of 22 years and 75 days, he took over the reins of Pakistan for the first time and achieved the title of becoming the country’s youngest captain. Shadab Khan has a strong resume as a contender for Babar Azam as his recent form as captain has been terrific. He is the current champion of PSL. It was under his captaincy that Islamabad United won the title this year. And, he also led his team to the title in the recently concluded domestic ODI tournament Champions ODI Cup.
Mohammad Rizwan
Mohammad Rizwan also has captaincy experience in PSL. On the international pitch of white-ball cricket, his hands are definitely tight in this regard, but a big reason for that is that he hasn’t been given that many opportunities. It will be interesting to see if PCB can consider Rizwan’s name in place of Babar Azam.
