Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh is called Sanskardhari. Three women have committed suicide here in the last two days. These suicide cases have shocked people. Police have registered a case in all three cases. Postmortem of the dead women’s bodies has been done. Two women committed suicide by consuming poison and one by jumping in front of a train.
The suicide cases in the last 48 hours have created a sensation in the city. The causes of death of the women who lost their lives are believed to be dowry harassment, domestic violence, being busy with mobile phones day and night, making reels and having illicit relations between husband and wife. These cases have exposed the insensitivity of the society.
Case-1 Tortured for dowry and drank poison
The first of these three incidents in Jabalpur in the last 48 hours is from Lalpur village in Tilwara police station area, where 30-year-old Chanchal Jaiswal alias Annu Rai committed suicide by drinking poison after being fed up with dowry torture. Annu’s family alleged that after marriage, her in-laws demanded dowry and when it was not met, she was subjected to physical and mental torture. Annu got married on 14 August 2019 to Shivkumar Rai, a resident of Lalpur. After marriage more dowry was demanded, if Annu was not fulfilled she was subjected to mental and physical torture. He took the step of suicide. An FIR has been registered by the police on charges of dowry harassment and murder.
Case-2 Husband suspected, wife jumped in front of train
Another incident is that of 28-year-old Durga Basor, who was disturbed by her husband’s torture and committed suicide by jumping in front of the train. Durga’s family says that her husband Satish Basor used to torture her mentally and physically due to doubts about her character. Satish beat Durga on July 30 also. Fed up with this atrocity, Durga committed suicide on August 29. The police have registered an FIR against Satish in this matter.
Case-3 Husband had relations with another woman, wife drank poison
The third case is that of 23-year-old Shraddha Patel, who was tortured and consumed poison by her husband for having an affair with another woman. Shraddha got married to Deviprasad Patel on 12 May 2022. Ever since marriage, Shraddha had to suffer mental torture due to her husband’s illicit relations. Fed up with the pressure and harassment of divorce, he decided to commit suicide. After Shraddha’s death, the police registered an FIR against Devi Prasad.
